Building Strong Teams through Inspiration
There has never been an ‘I’ in team and never will be. How will you inspire a group of individuals, which you have control over to do the best things for a firm? Seminars, luncheons, and even boot-camp style exercises are some of the most common ways to motivate a team to do what is best for all. However, these only go so far. You must inspire them to do the best thing.
Want to know some ways to inspire your team or develop an inspired team? Below are a few suggestions that I would recommend through personal experiences that have worked very well.
Bring In an Outside Point of View
Having a lecturer or speaker from a company that deals specifically with inspiration building can help energize a team. Their words, actions, and body language convey a positive message to their attendees. Corporate events use these people often in order to bring life back into their teams. In turn, employee productivity is increased and people are more willing to accept changes that will benefit them in the short term and long term.
Focus On the Positives & Not the Negatives
However, this is a lot easier said then done, focusing on the great things a group has to offer will inspire them to do that and more. Performance evaluations should focus on what they did right and offer them positive tips to improve on their weaknesses. Having a manager or supervisor that is supportive regardless of what results is more trust and inspires the team to crave bigger and more difficult challenges.
Activities Away from the Office = Stronger Teams
Taking the team out to lunch or the local bowling center for some friendly competition during working hours? Definitely! Having team building exercises where the focus of work is ignored for an hour or two will make the team more inspired to do work once they get back. If the team cannot make it out of the office, have something while they’re there. The point is that the saying ‘all work and no play’ really defines which teams are going to be successful or not.
I hope that these suggestions have provided the basis for inspiring you to make your team better. There are various agencies out there, which have resources available to do some of these tasks. But above all things keep everyone on the same page and focused on the task at hand. Without your teammates, a team would be nothing but a lone soul.
